Who We Are

BCSPE is a not-for-profit society of parents formed in January 2005. The Board consists of:

Debbie Desroches-Fulton

Debbie Desroches-Fulton has been a long standing parent volunteer in the Vancouver School District.  She was involved in her children’s elementary school Parent Advisory Council. In 2001 she became a District Parent Council Member and later was nominated Chairperson. She also has served on the Provincial Parent Council in the position of Secretary. In 2000 she was awarded the Vancouver School Board recognition award for her volunteer service. Even though her children have graduated, Debbie continues to be involved in education. She is currently a community member on the UBC Behavioural Research Ethics Board at UBC and is a parent advisory member on the Welcome to Kindergarten Board.

Catherine Evans

A policy analyst, lawyer and mother of two sons, Catherine has served two terms as Chair and three as DPAC representative on the PAC of Point Grey Secondary School in Vancouver.

Helesia Luke

Helesia is a co-owner of Ethos Strategy Group – a Vancouver-based, public interest communications firm. Helesia is a long-time public education advocate and a founding member of the BC Society for Public Education. Helesia has written extensively about recent changes to BC’s child labour laws. She also serves on the boards of CCEC Credit Union and Megaphone Magazine. Born and raised in Vancouver, Helesia has two grown sons and lives with her husband and their teenage daughter. In 2002, she was honoured to be a recipient of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for community service.

Allison McDonald

Allison has two sons one in elementary school and one in high school. Active in both school’s PACs for 12 years. Currently Allison is Chair of King George Secondary School PAC.

Annie Ehman – President

Annie Ehman is a long time advocate for public education. She has been involved with elementary, secondary, and district Parent Advisory Councils, including time as chairperson at all three levels. She was a founding member of the Vancouver Inner City Parents Group. She was honoured with the Queen’s Jubilee medal in 2002 for her education advocacy and a Vancouver School board recognition award in 2004. She is currently a board member of CLICK (Contributing to Lives of Inner City Kids), a non-profit society that raises funds to support programs for inner city children and youth.

Kelly Read

Cynthia Wong

Cynthia Wong is the past Chair of both the Strathcona Elementary and Britannia Secondary Parent Advisory Councils. She was a member of the Vancouver Inner City Parents Group and the District Parent Advisory Counsel representative on the VSB’s ESL Advisory Committee.  Her child have graduated from high school but she is still very passionate about educational issues in our province. In 2002, Cynthia was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for community service.

2005–2010 BCSPE
